Matt didn’t start in the lighting industry. In 2020, he was on the hunt for a simpler holiday lighting solution for his home. He saw immense value in a permanent outdoor system that would eliminate the annual hassle of climbing roofs or hiring an installer. Matt began gathering quotes from various companies but found their offerings to be lacking. Some solutions had lights that were too noticeable during the day and dim at night, while others offered inadequate features for year-round use.
One company, despite having a long-standing presence in the market, failed to provide an in-person demonstration and sent an impersonal quote over the phone. This left him uncomfortable investing in a product sight unseen. Matt drove from Mapleton, Utah, to their headquarters in Sandy, Utah, to see the lights. Unfortunately, their app was both visually unimpressive and malfunctioning, leaving him unimpressed.
Continuing his search, Matt discovered another company with a promising app. However, upon visiting their facility, he encountered disorganization and poor management. Being turned off by the poor culture, he had a light bulb moment.
Matt realized: ‘If I want the lights I’m dreaming of, I have to build them myself.”
That’s how Lux Lights was born.

“We’re not just selling lights. We’re helping people make memories,” Matt says. “We want to impact people’s lives through convenience and personalization.”

From the start, Matt has put people first, whether it’s training installers who take pride in their craftsmanship or building an app that anyone can use. He believes every home deserves to shine, not just at Christmas, but every day of the year.
“We want our customers to feel proud of their home and confident in their lighting decision. We’re not here for a quick buck, we’re here for the long haul.”
Not only does Matt put his customers first, but he also believes in giving back.
“Something we’ve always done, even when we didn’t have much money, was find ways to give back to communities,” says Matt. He continues, explaining, “We were able to donate $1,200 to donate to the Boys & Girls Club to give kids a brighter Christmas.”
But the charity doesn’t stop there.
“We help light up refugee shelters and homes … we donate solar lights to homes in Africa … our goal is to create an impact wherever people need it,” Matt expresses. Through the Light-for-Light Program, for every home Lux Lights installs, solar-powered lights are donated to homes in Africa that currently rely on hazardous kerosene lamps.
In 2024 alone, Lux Lights donated over $35,000 to community programs and helped install solar panels on a birth clinic in Africa.
“We talk about permanent lights with fun features, but there are people who can’t even flip a switch. We want to change that.”
A Drive to Innovate
Matt’s journey hadn’t been without setbacks. From early app developers who couldn’t bring his vision to life, to roadblocks in manufacturing and sourcing, it’s been a long and challenging road. But giving up was never an option.
Today, Lux Lights is working with a team of developers in Lehi, Utah, to build an app that will elevate the entire customer experience. It’s designed to be user-friendly, stylish, and packed with exciting features. Matt shares, “We’re not afraid of hard things. We’re here to innovate, push the industry forward, and keep improving. That’s part of the fun.”
The Future of Lux Lights
Matt’s vision is growing brighter by the day. He’s constantly looking for new ways to:

- Expand and influence companies throughout the country
